In November this year, the UdK team initiated in collaboration with our partner The Democratic Society a series of workshops as part of the Erasmus+ Change Agents project . We gave a presentation at the Stadtteilkoordination Schöneberg Nord and engaged in lively discussions with representatives from Berlin neighborhood centers. The central theme of our discussions revolved around the important task of making public urban data accessible, transparent and meaningful.
In the first workshop of the Erasmus+ Change Agents workshop series, participants shared best-case scenarios, highlighted the importance of data transparency and emphasized the need to use it constructively for the benefit of the community. Our aim was to capture the needs of the neighborhood through data and encourage a collaborative approach, emphasizing that the use of data should be a shared endeavor. The dialog was expanded to include residents in identifying their priorities and data needs. We addressed challenges such as lack of time to find information and public perception, which led to a deeper exploration of the specific data needed and its intended purposes. The discussion highlighted the importance of a central and transparent interface, building a better network between organizations and HEI to optimize existing infrastructures and provide relevant information.
The event successfully initiated a dialog about the importance of open data, community engagement and the potential for collaboration. The workshop laid the foundation for future initiatives and collaboration opportunities between civil society and design universities on data and digital literacy. The workshop series is an important step towards promoting collaboration.
