The Design Research Lab is a network of people, organisations, and non-human agents engaged at the intersection of technologies, materials, and social practices. Our aim is to design socially and ecologically sustainable tools, spaces, and knowledge that support people’s participation in a digital society – based on common principles of inclusiveness and respect for the planet. This puts the basic democratic right to take part in the digital sphere into practice. We start our research from individual lifeworlds and the needs of minoritized groups, beyond consumer majorities.
We are an interdisciplinary team of designers, researchers, tech-enthusiasts and critical thinkers from Berlin University of the Arts, German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society, as well as Einsteincenter Digital Future (ECDF).
Nara has been a member of the Change Agents ERASMUS+ project team since September 2023. This initiative, spearheaded by MOME in collaboration with the UdK, has provided her with a platform to contribute her expertise.
During her undergraduate studies in Brazil, Nara conducted research with a specific focus on Gender Design. Building on this foundation, she continues to explore related themes of collaboration and decolonization in both her work with the Change Agents Project and her ongoing master’s studies in Transformation Design at the Braunschweig University of Art (HBK-BS).
In her current research, Nara endeavors to guide designers toward approaches that are more self-aware, politically engaged, and less hierarchical. This commitment is indicative of her desire to reshape design practices, fostering a conscious and inclusive approach within the field.
