The Design Research Lab is a network of people, organisations, and non-human agents engaged at the intersection of technologies, materials, and social practices. Our aim is to design socially and ecologically sustainable tools, spaces, and knowledge that support people’s participation in a digital society – based on common principles of inclusiveness and respect for the planet. This puts the basic democratic right to take part in the digital sphere into practice. We start our research from individual lifeworlds and the needs of minoritized groups, beyond consumer majorities.
We are an interdisciplinary team of designers, researchers, tech-enthusiasts and critical thinkers from Berlin University of the Arts, German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society, as well as Einsteincenter Digital Future (ECDF).
Antonia has been part of the MINODU project team at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) since April 2023.
After completing her bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in 2020, she started the master’s programme “International Development” at the University of Vienna.
In her studies, as well as in her work as a student assistant, Antonia deals with issues of sustainable development in the face of power asymmetries and hegemonic relations. Her research focuses, inter alia, on how local communities can be better involved in the design process of projects to ensure that their needs are ultimately met. In this context, she also looks at how traditional knowledge can be better valued and integrated into scientific dialogue to achieve knowledge transfer, and how we can work together in intercultural and interdisciplinary teams to overcome hegemonies.
